School

The Sala d’Arme del Folle stems from the experience of the brothers Alessandro and Davide Gallo, certified instructors by FIS (Italian Fencing Federation), AIMA (Italian Weapon Masters Association) and CSEN (National Educational Sports Centre), former co-founders and instructors of La Sala delle Armi of Turin.

The mission of the School is to study and hand down the teachings of the Ancient Masters with enthusiasm, commitment , curiosity and will of sharing.

The study of treatises is guaranteed by a scientific approach, analysing them individually and comparing them with coeval sources, while keeping an open mind to shared interpretations in Italy and abroad.

This method makes the classes suitable for both those interested in the historical and martial research and those more keen on competition. Our school does in fact  participate in numerous tournaments and workshops on a national and international level.

Instructors

The Gallo brothers, Alessandro (1989) and Davide (1982)began their Historical Fencing career in 2005, after practicing various sports, some of which on a competitive level, an attitude that made them comprehend the importance of body mechanics inside a particular sport or martial art.

Their path begins to take shape In 2011, becoming  co-founders of the fencing school “La Sala Delle Armi” where they avidly taught and practiced HEMA. They have also contributed to the creation and organization of the prestigious international event “TaurHEMAchia – HEMA Torino” since 2013.

In 2016 they obtained legal certification as “Professionisti dell’Associazione Italiana Maestri d’Arme di I livello” (1st level Professionals of the Italian Weapon Masters Association), passing a tough examination on Italian longsword. This title will later be recognized by the Italian Fencing Federation (FIS) in 2018.
Then, they also obtained the CSEN National Diploma for HEMA Trainers.

With a main predilection in the Longsword tradition from Germany (mainly Lichtenauer and Meyer) and Italy (Fiore Dei Liberithey are alsointerested in Sword and Buckler (German sources) and Bolognese Sidesword.

They regularly attend numerous HEMA events in Italy and abroad, winning various medals in tournaments , learning and teaching in workshops.

Their academic education (Alessandro is a Medician and Davide a Biotechnologist) and their passion for sports have made them very keen on body mechanics and physical conditioning and has taught them the importance of proper form and posture.

In 2018, after a long journey inside their previous school, they founded the “Sala d’Arme del Folle – Scuola di Arti Marziali Storiche Europee”  with the goal of passing on the teachings of the Ancient Masters while remaining in touch with the HEMA community and never ceasing to learn and train.
